BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

........... Communication has been widely accepted by scholars and academies as the life hood of every organization because communication is needed for exchanging information, opinions, making plans and proposals, reaching agreement, executing decisions, sending and fulfilling orders and conducting sales (Blalock, 2005 and Rotler, 2006). It is essential to note that when communication stops, organized activity ceases to exist, and individual uncoordinated activities return in an organization (Kreps, 1990). Communication has crucial impacts among work groups in that organizational communication is a channel to flow information, resources, and even policies. Communication refers to the exchange of information between a sender (source) and a receiver (destination) so that it is received, understood and leads to action (Obamiro, 2008).

The importance of communication need not to be over emphasized. Hybels and Weaver (2001) noted that communication is essential for decision-making and planning. It enables the management to secure information for decision making. Communication also makes it possible for the smooth and efficient working of an enterprise. It is only through good communication skills that the management changes and regulates the actions of the subordinates in the desired direction. Effective communication tends to increases managerial efficiency ...............
